We are the Focusing Oriented Therapists Association (FOTA), a new international professional organization of Focusing-Oriented Therapists. This new community that we are building aims to reinforce our identity and share our resources to enrich our clinical work, training and outreach to make Focusing-Oriented Therapy better known and to ensure its development and preservation for future generations.
The new FOTA website will connect to the FOTA YouTube Channel and the other social media reaching out and connecting to different cultures and generations.
What is Focusing Oriented Therapy?
Whether you have previous experience with therapy or are considering therapy for the first time, Focusing-Oriented Therapy can offer a unique and empowering experience. Focusing Oriented Therapy is deeply respectful and empowering of the client’s thoughts, feelings, and experience. During sessions, the therapist listens deeply to what the client says and encourages the client to be guided by their ‘inner sense’ of rightness.
“What is true is already so. Owning up to it doesn't make it worse. Not being open about it doesn't make it go away. And because it's true, it is what is there to be interacted with. Anything untrue isn't there to be lived. People can stand what is true, for they are already enduring it.”
— Gene Gendlin, Focusing 1978
