Personal Statement

Eugene Gendlin gave us two great gifts that I bring to my professional and personal life. These are Focusing and The Process Model. The latter is a dull title for an affirmation of the exciting reality that we are living process, intimately connected, essentially inseparable, and belonging to the larger system in ways that are more than we can know or imagine. I find joy in growing our experiential capacities to know this within ourselves and our relationships.

I’m rather convinced that the more we open to the embodiment of our experiencing, the more we open to both the potentials for life satisfaction and happiness and for the resources needed during difficult times.

I’d like to name my sources of learning: I’m grateful for the group learning modality of St Stephen’s College (Edmonton, Alberta) followed by the group learning of Bill Bowen’s Psycho-Physical Therapy (Portland, Oregon). In addition, my great teachers include growing up on the coast of the Mediterranean, living in different cultures, many meetings in palliative care, and the inspiration of a few poets, mystics, musicians, and personally beloved elders. Not to be understated is the surprising practice of Focusing which touches into past and present experiencing in ways that bring even more meaning.

My therapeutic approach

My approach is to do my best to bring all of who I am to meet you, to attend a safe space that allows your process to unfold. We know it’s going well when you find yourself knowing more of who you are, listening more deeply to the needs and desires that are wanting more expression in your life. I hope to assist you in growing the capacities of your attention, emotional experiencing, and learning through your relationships. The meeting of two whole persons is our birthright, and I tend the groundwork to enable this as best we can during therapeutic encounters.
